Info overload

I have scoured this forum and the internet probably too much and now I'm kind of back where I started.

Here's the deal - I am about to rewire my 63 flareside with the 223 inline 6. It still has the generator/regulator configuration. In reading, I've come across several opinions which seem to assert that changing over to a one wire alternator would be not only a good move at this juncture, but also would simplify the rewiring task. Part of my problem is that I've seen good points made to keep the genny and others for going in with a 3 wire alternator.

Here's my questions:
1. Should I do the conversion? Why or why not?
2. One wire or three?
3. Which specific alternator do I use in either case?

Thanks in advance and please don't worry about insulting my intelligence by oversimplifying your answers. While I am learning more everyday, my ignorance knows no bounds!

3 wire over 1 wire gives the advantage of sensing voltage from wherever you hook up the S wire (battery is a good place if its convenient) so it will adjust the output accordingly to keep voltage in the charging range at that location, and still using the Alt light in the dash, so you know if there's a charging problem. 1 wire is pretty simple to wire though. Either way your power output options increase greatly over a generator. If I ever need more than 60 amps on my 390 (extra lighting, sound system, whatever electrical accessories) all I have to do is buy a higher output alternator and install heavier gauge power cable.

I'm not sure what alternator will fit a 223 or what bracket off of what truck you might need.
