Power steering.
1997 Super Duty 7.5 gas
I replaced my PS pump, been trying to get noise out of the new one and disconnected the return line from the steering gear to the bottom of the pump (Yes i plugged the bottom of the pump)
I wanted to make sure it was getting good flow back to the pump, so i routed the return into a bucket under my truck, started it up and before I could turn the wheel my reservoir (cap off, over filled with funnel in it to ensure it didn't run dry) was REALLY REALLY close to being completely empty..... It shouldn't have that much pressure when i'm not even turning the wheels should it?
I'm currently looking for a PSI gauge that goes above 1000 psi to test the pressure in series, but am surprisingly having a hard time finding one that goes high enough.
Either way, i'm on the verge of replacing the steering gearbox, but don't want to throw money at it if i'm not sure it'll fix the problem. So if it shouldn't empty that fast, i can save $$ on a gauge, t fitting and all the other crap i need to test pressure.
