My '75 F250 Camper Special has super easy power steering, but too easy for my liking. I could easily drive with my little finger but I find it somewhat disconcerting so was wondering if there's some way to stiffen it up or is that just the way it is?
You could get a power steering pump that puts out a little less pressure but I really wouldn't know where to tell you to start. I had a pump fail on a 72 F-100 and used a pump I had laying around from a 66 T-bird and it seemed to "tighten" up the steering feel a bit. It seems to put out less pressure than the stock truck pump. You could try one of those.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'd considered trying to do something similar like changing pulleys to see if I could drop the pressure. I guess as an option I could put huge tires on it, that seems to slow it down.
You can try a heavy duty steering stabilizer shock, which will add some resistance that the power steering will have to overcome. I notice my steering isn't quite as easy as it was before the stabilizer.
I have 36" tires and dual steering stabilizers and mine turns easy only one finger but there is no play it turns however little I turn the wheel I think thats just the way these trucks are.
does it have the all metal ford pump with teh skinny filler neck, the one witht he plastic tank and big filler neck, or the saginaw?
my 76 f-100 2wd was the same way...only way i could think of to give it some resistance is wider tires, steering stabilizer, smaller pulley or restrict the flow in the high pressure line somehow

Yes, it has the pump with a skinny neck. My '78 has the bigger necked pump and it's not as easy to steer (which is good) and my '79 has the Saginaw (which is also good). Maybe thats the easiest answer, just get the other type pump. I assume they will bolt in essentially?
im ot really sure...but thats the same pump my 76 f-100 had with the easy steering...i dunno if its just a 2wd thing or the pump? but ive always had bad luck with all the pumps except the saginaw
At this point the box is empty and the truck is stock with bumpers etc. so the front/rear weight ratio would be original. I'm just not sure which way I want to go yet to change the feel, th jury's still out.
