dreaded sparkplugs
hello everyone. I'm coming up on the dreaded sparkplug change. I've read alot of the threads on here concerning different methods, tools and the discussions on which plug to put back in. i have a 2007 150, 4.6 engine. while i was looking online at replacement plugs all it shows me is the typical type plug, not the newer ones that i had understood to be needed. what's the straight poop on this, or am i just not asking the right questions on my internet searches.
i did find the Leile removal tool on amazon for $60

Buy the tool. It works. I watched tons of youtube videos on how to do this, and read lots of tips and tricks from lots of threads and forums.
Still broke 3 out of 8. Less than 100k on a 5.4 engine.
The tool was used and they came right out. Watch videos on how to use the tool and read the instructions. So you know what is happening.
If you do not have the tool, and need it, your truck is down for a few days.

could you explain this a bit more. i understand about having the normal style plugs, just wanted a verification from somebody on this site, thank you for that. but this is the first that I've heard of the plugs ejecting themselves. is that a problem that i may cause by not doing something wrong? is this another cronic problem with fords?

The 4.6l has a 1 piece (normal) spark plug. The 5.4 prior to 2007 had a 2 piece which is now updated to a 1 piece. The 2 piece plug is what was breaking in the heads on removal. You have the 4.6l so this is not an issue for you and you will not require the lisle tool.
As far as plugs being thrown from the heads, I haven't heard anyone having that problem with this truck. The previous model 98-03 had that happening a bit, but not our tucks

It can happen in 04-08 trucks just not as common. Just make sure the plugs are tightened properly and it shouldn't be an issue. The plug works loose and compression gasses erode the threads in the cylinder head until they can't hold the pressure of combustion. The warning signs sounds like an exhaust leak and brown powdery deposits on the coil boots.
