front hub question

My understanding of the 1999 F250 Superduty 4X4 front end is that the bearings and seals are permanent installed and not serviceable.

This good condition truck has around 170 K miles on it and has yet not required servicing in the front, even the brake pads are original.

I plan on replacing king pins, tie rod ends, freshening brakes, new lines etc. and can't imagine doing his without addressing those wheel bearings. Drives me nuts thinking about it.

Are there rebuild-able hubs available for this truck axle and who sells them?

Any opinions or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You CAN service the hubs, Ford just doesnt tall you how.

Buy this,

Front ABS Grease-able Block Off Fitting - Riffraff Diesel Performance

Remove the ABS sensor and put this in its place temporarily to grease the 4x4 hubs. Remove and reinstall the sensor.

You can (and should) also grease the needle bearings.

Welcome to guzzle's 4x4 Needle Bearing Maintenance Web Page

I'll be making a video of these procedures in the next few weeks.

You could also go with a front hub conversion. It changes your hubs to the old style with spindles and bearings. I used the Dynatrac on my F350. I use the Riffraff ABS grease fitting on my F250.

My front hubs started "grinching" at 250K miles. It's very likely you just need to grease them and call it good, but spinning the bearing by hand and feeling for friction or "noise" is a good way to verify you're OK until the next time you check them.

I ultimately replaced my front hubs with OEM from Amazon for a reasonable price. This kept the ESOF fully functional, as I have maintained the rest of the system since I bought the truck. I live in a region where road conditions change in short distances, and I drive long ones daily.

I am fixing to install those Spyntec spindles soon. I wish I had done this a long time ago. If you can afford it and if you need the sealed bearings it might be a good mod to do now and not wait. Good luck.
