Help with wastegate sensor

I posted this in the excursion section but there is very little trafic compared to here. I have a 2002 7.3 with turbonetics turbo and intercooler, boost fooler etc.. I was looking under the hood today and found the wastegate sensor plug unhooked. Should it be unhooked?

No, it should be plugged in. There is probably a code thrown for it since it is unplugged. Maybe someone was trying to disable the wastegate from working? If so, that is not the correct way.

The "correct" way to booger up the proper function of the wastegate is to pull the red line from the wastegate actuator and cap the line.

I'm new to Diesel's, and the one I just bought had the same mod. Why would you do this? What does it help with?

Which mod? The pulled connector or the capped red line?

The point of disabling the truck from signaling the wastegate to open is to get more boost. The truck will open the wastegate at about 18 PSI. Capping the red line can give a stock truck as much as 22 PSI boost - a substantial gain. Add a tune with the red line mod, and things get interesting.

Do we have a picture of the red line capped and where to disconnect it from?

Tugly's post #5 above.
See the canister on the turbo with a nipple in the upper right?
The red line is laying on top of that canister with a black elbow. It is plugged with a screw.

ok, minor bump for on topic post (why not?) I just did this on the truck I have (plugged it with I think a 1/4" screw however other then that my truck is bone stock, is it ok to run as is (i don't always mash the skinn pedal but if I do will this "mod" hurt with out any type of boost gauge or any thing like that??

can I use the now plugged red line (the redline mod??) and hook it to a vac gauge? will this serve any type of purpose or does this line only see vac when the solenoid opens? (if there is one??) or does the red line see vac 100% of the time?? if it does I would like to look into a vac gauge install and use the line for the gauge.

sorry for a lot of questions but I figure I might as well ask them now...

The red line never sees vacuum. It sees pressure only when the solenoid opens.
It is fine to run it unhooked with no other mods.

Should I use a boot gang instead on the disconnected red line?

Seeing as the solenoid only opens when it wants to open the waste gate I would think that you would only get a reading at that point. I would suggest running a dedicated line for the boost gauge; so you know what your pushing all of the time

You can leave the canister open. Just plug the red line with what ever is handy. Many people just put it over on of the hose clamp bolts near by.
