Last night, driving home on the interstate, truck goes from cruising along at 2k rpm to idle, peddle dead, but still running. Start coasting for the shoulder & it stalls out, maybe 10 seconds after going to idle. No SES or warning lights. Oil good, just filled up fuel maybe 5 minutes before at same station I fill up at every other day. Thought maybe fuel issue, drain bowl, cycle key & bowl fills back up. Wait to Start light cycles fine, engine cranks but no start.
IPR in place, not loose, EBP just cleaned out, ICP new (6 months ago), new batteries & cables, new alternator. Thought maybe CPS (spare in glove box) but decided to unplug ICP first. Truck fired right up, idled smooth, revved smooth, SES came on. Drove 90 miles home, no issues at all, no obvious change in drivability. Haven't plugged ICP back in or tried restart since shutting off last night.
Question: No scanner easily available - Logical to assume at this point that ICP crapped out or should I be looking for an underlying issue in conjunction with ICP?
Thanks y'all! FWIW lurking on here for a while made what could have been an expensive/aggravating ordeal last night a short hiccup instead.
It could also have been a stuck IPR or a weak solenoid on it. I'd plug the ICP sensor back in and see if the problem repeats. If it does, replace the ICP sensor. If not, more diagnosis may be needed.
I'll plug it back in tonight and see what happens. IPR solenoid was replaced at same time as ICP, the nut & spacer vanished one day & I popped a spare solenoid/nut/spacer on it that I had in a box.
