Icp issue

Ive been running down a power problem with my rig & have it almost fixed but still running a bit sluggish.Im new to diesels & read to unplug icp to see if itll smooth it out.Well when I Unplug it looses about all power & white smoke comes out of exhaust when I hit the throttle.So whats going on?I need to swap it out as there is oil in there.But with these issues with it unplugged is there other issues it's hinting to?Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you're doing this on a cold engine. Was the truck modified by the previous owner?

Dosnt appear to have been.She was a service truck.Idk how 2 check 4 a chip&yes did it cold.
