Well since my truck has been running so good, I need to ask for a friend this time. Buddy has an 06 350 with about 70k on the clock. When he starts the truck cold, it starts but misses real bad for about 3-5 sec. Sounds to me like at least one injector is not firing well. Once he puts the truck in gear, he can put the pedal to the floor, but has no power. He does get boost but very little acceleration. This issue gets gradually better until the truck is fully warmed up. Once the truck has been driven for 10-15 min, it runs as it should. My first thought is a fuel delivery issue in some fashion. I would guess an injector issue with cold oil, but I am not a tech either. He does get some white smoke, but in my experience, some is normal when the engine is cold. Truck is stock and he does run syn oil, not sure what blend. Any thoughts? Thanks guys.
Once warmed up the FICM does not work as hard as it does on a cold engine. Mine did the same thing. Worked better when I pugged the truck in, even at 45* outside. Not exactly sure why the FICM works better once everything is warmed up, oil nice and hot, cylinders combust better when hot?
I bet the FICM voltage is in the 30's. Solder fix worked on mine for a year. now its low again.
If he hasn't gotten the latest reflash then that should benefit him greatly in the starting department. Since it's under warranty the dealer will have to do that first to see if it corrects the problem. The FICM check will be part of the flash. If it's bad they will replace it ($0 deduct. emissions warranty?).
I myself would have said injector stiction issues, but without any kind of code scan it's hard to say. Mine misses "real bad" longer than 3-5 seconds and it's due to the FICM tuning. Warm it's fine. Just the nature of my beast though
