Ok now that it has been getting cold as well you know here in Nebraska I have noticed my 96 250 has all the power in the world till it gets warmer out why do I have power when cold but then when it warms up it tends to fall on its face? Farely stock with intake exhaust and tuner
Jim, is it just at start up? Does it smoke? How old is you oil? Is it full? The more symptoms/facts you can give us/them the easier it will be for them to help you.
Start up is when I notice it the most that is when it is the coldest. but even after driving a bit if it is real cold out still the same. Oil is full and new does it no matter how old the oil is. EBPV delete also no vac leaks.
When warm I hit the throttle it winds up but you get that sluggish feel like it should be setting you back in your seat a bit but it doesnt. I have cleaned the fpr bowl replaced sensors fixed fuel leaks dont know why it would give me the power when it is really cold but not when warm. I know I may have a bad glow plug or two but it still starts when 10 degrees out without being plugged in. when warmed up no smoke may be a hint of black when I romp on it but not like it should when it is cold out I can romp on it and get a fair amount of black but no white smoke except on start up.
I do notice that when cold rpms seems to bounce a couple hundred and when you give it just a bit of throttle you can feel the truck surge slightly.
Hope that helps
P.S. No codes
Do you allow your truck to warm up after you start it? Or do you just start and go? I usually allow my truck to warm up at idle for 10-15min on cold days.
since our trucks use oil to drive the injection process, cold oil seems like its helping, but when it thins out you have issues, hence the warm factor. sounds like you have Ipr oring failure or injector orings are junk. Adding a chip tends to mask the issues with orings from the higher injection pressure and oil pressure but will soon fail like they have in your truck. Give the ipr a shot, it think its like 30$ for a complete rebuild? mabe less
to me it sounds like you have a high pressure oil problem like injector orings could be bad and when your oil is cold it's thick so you have good pressure to the injectors and then when the oil warms your oil gets thin and then oil is getting by the orings
haha! litterally 30 seconds apart! thats cool, yeah that deffinetly sounds like the issue. some one else will chime in and hone in on wether its the ipr or injector orings, hopfully on your behalf its Ipr orings, which is what im leaning towards

ok now what is the IPR and how do I fix or is it a replace thing
it is a valve that regulates the oil pressure to the injectors, it is located in the hpop res. itn the back on the drivers side at the very bottomish, it opens and closes with demand from the computer, closing to build pressure and opening to bleed off pressure. it has orings that chunk out and bleed pressure off. what year is your truck? 96 and up had a different one, on my 94.5 ive yet to be able to find mine!
you can rebuild it with a IPR rebuild kit from diesel orings.com and such, search it, you can buy a new one if you want but its like 200+$, a couple orings and an hour of your time is much less
could just be the air when its cold. cold air is more dense than warm air. hence more air being pushed through the turbo and its cold. it would make a pretty good improvement in the trucks getty up and go. seems to in mine anyway. just my two cents.
