Here is a pic of a tailgate that came with my '65 F250. It doesn't really fit my truck and I'm going to try and find a better match. In the meantime, I have a nice, rust-free, barely used tailgate.
Can you help me ID the exact year, or year range? It says "Electronic Fuel Injection" on the little badge, which I understand was first introduced on some trucks in '85 but not across the line until later. I tried posting it in the '87-'96 Forum to start, but the replies indicate that it is an '80-'85 model. If EFI only came out in '85, does it mean that it must be an '85 tailgate?
At any rate, I am likely to sell it (or swap if anyone has a '65 tailgate lying around!)
The tailgate is located in suburban Boston. It does have cables on the sides, vs. flat metal bars. I can post more pictures if there is interest. What's the going rate for a tailgate?
If it has the cables it's an 83-86, the fuel injection sticker is easily removed. I bought a clean rust-free tailgate off an 84 at a local wrecking yard for $45, central CT ~Bill
PS that "new Ford tailgate" isn't Ford, it's Ford licensed, isn't painted, and doesn't include all the guts that separate a tailgate from a bench topper.

That's a great deal then. When I went looking for one last spring, the stealer told me they were no longer available through Ford. I've seen repro shells on line for that price, so my apologies for misinformation. ~Bill

YES, it is ford. It came from ford or Dennis carpenter or NPD all FORD parts.
I actually have 4 of them in the FORD boxes in my garage
That Electronic Fuel Injection badge actually has a couple of locator pins behind it, and two holes in in the metal of the tailgate.
That's a sweet tailgate!
