Overheating problems.

my truck is overheating quickly. I have replaced the thermostat and the waterpump. It has no heat which tells me that the coolant isnt making it to the heater core. It is also building lots of pressure and blowing out of reservoir cap. I have flushed the system and dont have any blockages. My guess is that is the passenger side headgasket. What do you guys think? Also I dont smoke (or steam) out of the exhaust and I dont have any milky oil on fill cap or dipstick. Thanks for your help in advance.

Head gasket problems are rare on these engines, but it's not impossible. Did you use the proper thermostat? There are two configurations, short stem and long stem. Someone correct me if I confuse the two but I believe the long stem is the correct one for stock. The wrong one can cause flow problems.

NO fuel in reservoir either. I did injector cups last year on it. Just did a pressure test on it and it held at 15 lbs cold and we started the truck and let it get hot and it only went up 1/2 lb. Hoping to rule out head gasket.

Thinking it may be the clutch fan now. Doesnt make sense why I dont have any heat tho. There seems to be resistence but not sure. Also noticing some small metal flakes on the belt that I didnt notice before.

Last time I drained my system, it took forever to get the air out. That could be a possible cause for the no heat as well?

How long has it been since you have done all the work to the system?

did you put the serpentine belt on correctly? if you did not, it is very easy to put the belt on backwards, and you will spin the water pump in the wrong direction giving you the symptoms you currently have.

One day

I have now put a thermostat, radiator, clutch fan, new cap and reservoir, pressure tested the system at 15lb for 5 minutes with no fluctuation and a new water pump. I just checked the belt for proper installation and am still occasionally having pressure build up in my system. The truck seems to be running in the normal range during normal driving but still in over pressuring the cap occasionally. It happened 3 times today. doesnt seem to overheat but blows out cap.

Has anyone heard of as problem in which the cylinder walls break down and put pin holes in the cylinder walls creating pressure to build in the coolant system?

I also show no signs of head gasket problems meaning the truck does not smoke at all.

Today I drained the new radiator and put the proper coolant in the system ( I was running water during all of this repair) The system capacity it 32 quarts. Removing the drain plug from the radiator I was only able to put 4 gallons of coolant in before it was full. Could the engine block itself hold 4 gallons of water?

I am at a loss as to what my next step in resolving this issue is.

Thanks for all the info
