I have a 1977 f100 short bed with stepsides. I've been looking online for a good bedliner like Dual liner, etc, but non of them seem to make bedliners for my truck. I used to want to get a spray-on, but so many people are complaining about them, I would rather not go that route if I don't have too. So, any advise?
A drop in plastic liner? They are out there in some 73-79 trucks, but who know what brand will fit. I do not even know it some one makes one for our year? A drop in is a great rust magnet.
Rhino and Line-X have a good rep, it all depends on the preparation of the bed before the application. If you get one from a local dealer ask about references for other happy customers and or does it come with a peel/fade warranty that THEY honor and not pass you to corporate HQ.
I agree spray on is the way to go, but there are differences among the spray ons too. I have a Line-X in one truck and a Rhino in the other and they are very different. The Rhino seems a little more cushy, but a little less durable. The Line-X is harder and more abrasive but has held up better.
I have had a rhino in mine for over 10 years and put it through hell and it still looks brand new. I chose it over the linex because it was a little softer. It grips stuff better and keeps it from sliding around. Just my personal preference though. Either one will work just fine.
Rhino Extreme™[***************][/COLOR]coating is the most recent addition to the Rhino Linings® retail truck bed liner product line. What was intended to be a commercial and industrial coating has become our latest phenomenon! As with all Rhino Linings products, Rhino Extreme coating offers great chemical and corrosion resistance as well as superior impact resistance to withstand those heavy loads. It is a protective coating that bonds to virtually all substrates of any dimension, including metals, woods, concrete and fiberglass. So if you want an industrial-strength truck bed liner...go Extreme!
hey doug did you have that down to bear steel for the raptor to adhere?was wondering for an undercoat.nice job Doug
I didn't go down to bare metal on the whole bed. It was a rust free (for the most part) bed with factory paint. Everywhere that there was any surface rust or dents I wanted to work on I did strip all the way down though. Then sanded, scuffed, and thoroughly cleaned everything. After I was happy with the prep work I coated the entire bed with POR-15. After that was fully cured scuffed it up real good and then sprayed two coats of 2K Epoxy filler primer and then 3 coats of bed liner on the bed floor and two on the bed sides.

I can't comment yet (truck is still not done) but from my research it seems to be holding up real well for most. The ones that have issues it seems to be mostly due to poor prep work.
I do know that the Rhino and LineX products are sprayed thicker and are more durable because of it. I had originally planned to go with LineX but my budget wouldn't allow for it. Now that I sprayed the liner I am glad I went with the U-POL, at $120 for the liner and gun kit it can't be beat.
