transmision

Hey guy. New to diesel trucks so have a question or two.

I am building a '51 3/4 ton Ford truck as a rat rod. I have my heart set on a turbo diesel swap with a 5 speed manual. RWD

Found this locally:

7.3 Powerstroke Engine

The guy has an extra flywheel and clutch but no transmission.

What are my options? I am pretty sure the manuals from any Modular Ford may work, but do not know. Finding a proper trans for it has been harder than expected. 4X4 transmissions seem pretty common.... but as this will be a lowered truck I think a front diff might be kinda hard to tuck in there.

Thanks for any input. I'll keep searching.

A transmission from a modular engine will NOT bolt to a 7.3L. You need a trans from a 7.3L.

All the International 6.9/7.3 diesel engines that went into Ford trucks (6.9 IDI, 7.3 IDI, 7.3 IDI-T, 7.3 PSD) have the same bolt pattern. It is not the same as any Ford engine bolt pattern. The PSDs were originally mated to ZF-5 transmissions; that would be the simplest solution.

With that settled.... the next question:

I need an Fuel Injection Control Module. I was talking with a local diesel guy who says the newer post 97 modules will work for me. He has one. My question is basically.... will it. He says it will use a higher voltage than stock, but that should not matter and will work fine. It is meant to fire the split fired injectors.

Will it plug into my harness?

Or just snap up this:

SD ones are an upgrade and will plug right in. They are 120v stock. Ours are 100, I forget what the 110 came on, but any 7.3 idm will work.

Thank you. That was what I was to understand. Guy said a high voltage would reduce knock a bit..... which is actually the opposite of what I want in a gnarly old Ratrod. But I need running.
