Ford never installed a hard seat "Insert" in the 335 family.
Most manufactures started to flame harden the seat area shortly after the unleaded fuel started coming out. On SBC, you can actually see the dis-color around the seat. I can't say I have seen that same dis-color.
When we rebuild the heads, we always install the inserts in the exhaust.

Well, they are sitting on the "mock" engine that has been used to model the various accessories while the "real" engine was out for machine work. Here's a shot without the A/C brackets and compressor, Saginaw power steering pump and brackets, 3G alternator and brackets, etc. but you can see the TFS heads, Flow Kooler aluminum water pump, aluminum intake, and so on.
And it'll be connected to the cold air ducting that's connected to the firewall, as well as hot air from the exhaust. Therefore, constant air temp to the carb.
