The oil filter should capture anything that has fallen into the pan with some degree of reliability. If the bottom end went, then chances are, that oil just went straight into the pan after lubing the main bearings. I wouldn't be too worried about collateral damage at this point, especially with the modern oil filters used in today's diesels.
I hate it when we see a premature engine failure. Let us know how things progress. Sounds like you are at least getting a new motor courtesy of your Ford Warranty.
Once the techs tear everything down I am sure they will get anything else damaged replaced. Gotta start somewhere and the short block is it.
Thanks crystal just heard back today that bearing in bottom end went and oil pan was filled with metal. Ford is sending a short block but it worries me a bit as the oil travels though the entire motor...
I'm glad to hear that things are moving in the right direction, Bobmurp1. If you'd like, I'll be happy to escalate this to your regional customer service manager. To get the ball rolling, just send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.
Yea I hope it last long Enough to worry about rusting! Started ordering parts today to rebuild my 02, hydraulic steering, new rims and tires, 2 new driveshafts, installed 5th wheel today, just ordered new interior out of a 08 from eBay and there will be a lot mores to come if the 12 has any more hiccups. I hope it doesn't and I can't say I blame ford as I feel it's the EPA that single handedly is ruining the Diesel engine!
you know what really bothers me about the pictures of that shortblock... its a $50K+ truck, and they can't even paint the engine block..it looks like an engine block that has been sitting outside for 10 years..
