Well, I was wondering what is a better deal? Should I just get the filter for like 50 bucks? Or do I have to go all out and get the 300.00 kit? What are some pros and cons? Thanks.
I went Airaid instead of K&N and if I would have known then what I do now I would have went with a cheapie from E-Bay since other than the tube and filter you have to re-use all your factory parts. Would think you could pick up just the filter for the FIPK or Airaid for a whole lot less than the $200 + the kits go for.
I did the poormans FIPK with a K&N filter. I saved around $200 by doing it this way. The modification works great! I then took the $$$ saved and spent on other mods! Try it first, I'm sure you'll like it!
Install the filter for now and when you can just change the intake tube to WMS velocity tube type setup. It keeps the filter OUT OF THE HEATED ENGINE compartment by using the stock housing, thereby utilizing cooler exterior air than the FIPK. Hope this helps.
I went with the WMS Velocity Tube and the K&N filter. The tube gives you a greater consistent diameter on your intake, you just reuse the filter box. They're website is: http://www.wmsracing.com/pgi-ProductSpec?WMS-VEL97F
I spent $175 for both and I think it is awesome and looks great.

Do you have any pics? Cause I like your thinking.

What is the tube made out of? Does it get hot? I would think if it was metal, it would get hotter than plastic. I guess It could be wrapped up.
Ther are some pics in my gallery of the Poormans FIPK. If you do a google search for poormans FIPK it will dump you to a detailed site that gives you about 5-6 pics and detailed instructions. I think you can find it on F-150online also.
What material is the wms velocity tube made of? Is it metal? I'm trying to decide today what intake to go with. I always thought volant, however I'm really tempted to go with Iceman. I can't imagine that the gains of the volant would be that great over the iceman (for the additional cost)
I'm pretty sure the WMS tube is ceramic. The Expedition already has a stock cold air intake, the problem is the diameter or the amount of air it pulls in. The WMS just replaces the factory smaller flatter intake with a mandrel bent hard pipe. I also put in a K&N air filter. I think I made the right decision.
