In need of a mechanic!

I live in Meridian,MS. Over the past several months I have bought ARP studs, oil cooler, standpipe, dummy plugs, stc fitting, up pipe, Blue Spring Kit, and gaskets(If you see anything missing please let me know). The only problem I have now is I don't have a mechanic. The last time I had any work done on my truck it was in Buford, GA at powerstrokehelp. I have already heard and read about them on here and I really don't wanna take my truck back there. Does anybody know of a good mechanic with 4 hours of driving distance seeing that I will have to leave my truck for a few days. I'm also willing to drive further if its a reputable mechanic.
City Distances
Atlanta,GA-4hrs
Birmingham,AL-2hrs
Memphis,TN-3hrs
Jackson,MS-1hr
New Orleans-3hrs

KC would be an 11 hour drive. Npccpartsman (Tim) knows the area, I'll ask him.

OR if you willing. You can tackle this your self.
Yes it a big first time step and we can help with
info. Or take a road trip and visit Anthony. He
will take very good care of you.

Hey Vernon, you posted about some readings with your SGII.

How about posting up what you are seeing. (Or have you already and I missed it)

Yahiko I have a serious question with that statement. Is this something that is really doable for me? I have common knowledge on working with vehicles e.g. oil change, shocks, struts, fuel filters, tune up, and alternator change. Do you think this is something I can do? If so I'm for it as it will save me a tremedous amount of money.

Amdriven2liv I'll post numbers in a little bit.

I don't know you so I am guessing. BUT, here goes. NOTE : Having a place to work is something to look at also.
The mechanical part is basic stuff. It's heavy and some tight spaces.
Attention to details is the biggest thing and on the first time you want
to take you time and go slowly. Use OEG head gaskets is one of the
other big ones. Watch the youtube videos from SrMasterTech and DieselTechRon
for some of the basic things. I found that they give some very good hints
on how to get things done.
The one other thing you are going to want to have check when you have the
heads out is to see how flat they are. I think that any time the heads are
coming off that you need to be ready to replace them and have the money
to do it. That way when you do get down to then and find that they don't
need to be replaced you are in for a good surprise.

Cleaning the deck and heads are the next step that you need to work on.
Don't worry about the stains but get the gunk off. There is a good set on
how-to things that all you have to do is ask how and someone will fill you
in on it.

For access space there are some trick and stuff. Like putting some studs
in and using a zip-tie to hold it while you lift the head into place.
ONE NOTE ON HEAD PLACEMENT. Have a helper with that. They are heavy
and you don't want to scratch the new gasket. There is a DIY head lifting tool
that makes it a lot less of a heavy lift with a cherry-picker to lower it in

You will find the STC update part less of a problem to install if you have
access to a bench vise so it does not move around as you torque it down.

If this did not make you not want to try this I would make a new thread with
the subject line reading something like "Steps to doing studs and all the needed updates"

One tool here on FTE you will find handy is the search tool and the advanced search tool.
Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - Search Forums
If you highlight the box for the 6.0L forum then it will only search that.

ASK QUESTIONS AND WATCH VIDEOS.

I have missed some thing and others will point them out and that's a good thing.
You will get very good help here that way. If a step is missed of stated wrong
it will get pointed out.

Sean
