Changing wheel size?

So, with having figured out that I would be best sticking with a 35" tire at the tallest and a 4" lift to keep the truck all around useful, I am trying to determine if I should maybe change wheel size. Currently I have a 4.5" Rough Country lift along with 35x12.50x18 Goodyear Duratracs and 18x9 Gear Dominator wheels with 0 offset and 5" backspacing. Sometimes I look at the 12" wide wheels but find that only a couple companies like Fuel and Weld Racing make them. I'm wondering if maybe I should go to a 20" wheel, but that would mean buying a new set of tires and these are only about a year old with 8,000 miles.

Is anyone on here running a 18x12 wheel with a 35" tire on a 05-07 F-250? My biggest question is clearance issues. I know that the 35x12.50x18 will work perfectly on that wheel, but am unsure if you'd run into issues hitting the radius arms or sway bar.

I think it would depend on the wheel specs- such as where on the wheel the additional width is. If the distance between the lug face and inner rim edge is the same as your current wheel (meaning, the added width is all on the "pretty side"), your clearance on the suspension side wouldn't change any.

Yea, that makes sense. I believe that's how most of the wider wheels are set up is that the extra width just adds to the "lip" of the wheel. Like I said, I know that the 35x12.50x18 will work just fine on the 12" wide wheel as it seems that's what most people run on them. I'm just not wanting it to look like the wheels are sticking out too far. I've got pocket-style flares, so I'm guessing it won't. An 18x12 just looks meaner. Also, I'm curious if it will affect snow or off-road traction as well.

It will probably affect traction in the snow. Trucks like a tall and skinny tire best in snow. It'll mostly depend on your tires though. Big mud tread isn't the greatest in snow.

Like I said, I currently have 18x9 with 35x12.5x18. I guess it really wouldn't change traction much just because you're using the same size tire, just stretching it out a little bit. Using Goodyear Duratracs.

Anyone on here running an 18x12? I'm wondering if I would be best going to a 20" wheel setup.

12" is too wide. You want a 20x10 or 18x9

12.5" tire on a 12" rim? It will look like a Vato truck... Might as well makes those wheels gold 100 spokes too.

I guess you're right. I wonder if I would be happier with a 20x10 with a 35x12.5. That would involve about 2000+ dollars though.

Crazy how much that stuff costs!

Being mine is an XLT I originally had 17" wheels. I really liked the 08+ Lariat 18" wheels, and also the different styles of 20" King ranch wheels.

Glad I went with the 18" Lariats, tires are way cheaper. Currently have about 35K on my 275/70-18 BFG Rugged Terrains and more than half tread left.

For a 12.5 tire I think for a daily driver a 9" wheel would look best. For major off-road I would I even consider an 8" for more sidewall flex.

Sorry for the hijack..........did changing your wheel size from 17 to 18 inch effect your trans shift strategy or your Spedo accuracy much? and if so how did you correct this? Thanks in advance.

I corrected the speedo with an SCT Tuner. Calculated tire revs was 608, I use 638 revs to be accurate with a GPS.

Thanks, Did correcting the speedo also correct the shift points or where they ever an issue before you corrected the speedo?
Also since I don't have a tuner do you know if I can go to a Ford dealership and get my speedo re-calibrated and deal with any transmission shift point issues that the swap may bring on? Thanks for your help.
