Probably high pressure oil leak....if you bought something to monitor sensors, we could diagnose for free....and you'd have the gauges for future monitoring.
What live time scan tool would you guys recommend?
Most people will recommend whichever one they are using.
The ones listed in Rusty's post, for the most part...will provide all the information you need to read the live data to diagnose issues. Figure out which one suits you whether it's appearance or price.
Personally, I use a Scangauge II on local short trips, and I use the Torque Pro app on a 7" tablet on long trips, and as a better code reader compared to the Scangauge.
So what is a fair price for a shop to find a fix a leak in the high pressure oil system. That is what the shop is telling me is wrong they can't tell me till tomorrow exactly what and where this leak is. They are going to pressure test the system to determine what is wrong. The guy mentioned something about a manifold in the system and said that if it is that the part alone is 800
Well where are you located?
The stand pipe and dummy plugs are not that hard to do.
Have you worked on a gas engine before? You will need metric
tools and a torque wrench. If your near Hemet Ca. would say
give Ron or DieselTechRon a call if you don't want to do the
work your self. If you are willing to take it on we can help.
But before you do jump in you need to make sure that is the
problem. The Scanguage or the other smart phone apps will be
your best friends and come in handy at other times.
One thing about this engine and the truck it's in. Don't do shotgun
repairs. (Throwing parts and hoping you fix it)
Identify the problem and then fix it. Throwing parts at a problem
may or may not fix it and may or may not make you mad a money
that you spent and did not get it fixed. Better to know what you aiming
for and get a better shot at a fix than other wise.
Read in the Tech Folder at the top of the forum and ask questions.
The shop is already diagnosing the problem and I am already in a decent amount money. I will be getting a scan app for my phone and will be doing any future work myself. I was just hoping a shop would get it done quickly since I was supposed to be driving to san Fran yesterday. So I was not wanting to do it my self for time reasons. Now wishing I had would probably be close to done.by now

You can use a program called Run As Date The program on the disk
is date sensitive and that is the reason for the Run As Date program. You will find it
very handy when working on your truck. Well worth the $38 that is being asked.
I wouldn't be condemning an 06 HPOP without proper air testing. STC,,, now that's a different story. I'd tear into the stc even if it was running fine. It only needs replaced once. Once it's updated,, it's done. Then stand pipes n dummy plugs. However,, you could have top injector oring leaks. If you want,, you can contact us and we can get the IPR air test fitting from robbinthahood. Or you can look him up and get one directly from him. He is on this forum. What happened at the "shop"? Can I ask what shop?
