ok, i race my truck(which i like doing) and got beat today by a(glup) chevy, it was a 91 long bed with a 350 and auto tranny, he had some really short really wide tires(285's??) any way my truck has bald 32" mudgrips, i beat his *** off the line, but he came back on the topend,
but i don't want more power JUST for racing, my friend has a boat and i'm going to be pulling it all summer goin to the lake, well my truck(302/AOD/3.55's) has trouble pulling it at low speeds, also i can't run down the highway with it in OD, i was thinking of a swap to 4.10's with a locker. but i think this would really hurt my gas milage, it's like 11-13MPG now. but i dunno gears cost a lot of money, i'm going to bypass my smog pump and hollow out the cats for a lil more help and check my timming. also i still need to change the plenum gasket(i hope thats why teh MPG is so bad). any ideas on other *cheap* mods??
i dont know about your truck, but in my 1979 F-100 w/302 and automatic tranny a K&N helped a little......maybe you should invast in some Nitrous

nitrous pulling the boat off the boat ramp...hmmmm might work, but yeah the K&N is a must, i was thinking about a tornado fuel saver, but i think i might just have to put smaller tires on it or swap the gears(i'm thinking gear swap over the summer)
I have 4.11's in my rig and I they are the perfect gears for my rig. At 60mph I am running at about 3000 rpm in 3rd gear which is perfect for towing. In od it drops down to 2100 rpm's and it stays in OD fine unless I hit a really big hill. I am running the 33's though so that could be the difference. And my mileage is at 14.3 in long trips. 13 MPG around town..
