So on my way to class this morning im driving down a road towards a light in the highboy. For some reason I have a few ants in the cab so I start swatting them off me. Then a bee ends up flying in the back window or was in the cab and lands on my arm. I look down and flick it and as I look up everyone ahead of me is braking for a rwed light harder then usual. I slam on my brakes and lock all 4 up and skid into a 2013 f150 at around 10-18mph not sure.... FAIL!!!
Well the highboy seems to have minor injuries includint a crease in the grill surround, a slight bulge in the pass fender, a chip of paint on the bottom of the fender and a slightly bent bumper. It seems that the upper bolt holding on the bumper sheered off so that caused the crease in the grill surround. But other then that it cracked the AC condenser. All said and done the only thing noticeable is the AC condenser. So I got off lucky. The other guy has a crease below the driver tail light, and needs a new bumper and tailgate
Is there any other things I should check on my truck for damage? I made it a half hour home and the truck seemed fine.
Dang, that sucks man! Glad you're alright though, that sounds similar to the only accident I got into, except mine was cause I was trying to stop on ice.
Anyway, I'd add the frame onto the list of the things to check. It's possible to have tweaked it a little, if you hit it right. I would also check your steering components (column, steering shaft, rag joint, etc.) as they may have shifted in the collision. It doesn't sound like it was a very hard hit, and sounds like the other guy got most of the damage. I'd just give your truck a good look over while you're fixing the things you've already mentioned.
Also, did you get a ticket? If so, go to court and fight it! Not sure how it is out there, but I got out of my ticket luckily.

Yea at first look I think the frame is alright. Ill do some measuring later. And no the guy I hit was actually really cool about it. Said he did the same once and he has a son the same age as me who I guess did the same... And it was a company truck so he seemed like just relax its no big.

That's good. And that's lucky too, I hit an old lady and she was pretty cool about it too. Still had to deal with stupid insurance though, anyway glad it seems like you and your truck both got off alright. Maybe post some pics if you feel like it and others might have ideas of other things to look at
Sorry to hear about the ancient, at least you are ok. Trucks for the most part are easier and cheaper to fix than the human body.
Yes I would be a little leary of such a nice guy too, rear end me and the company truck with damage and "ah its ok"... I would of at least got his name and # info just in case....but that's me.
Look over the radiator core support rubber mounts where they are worn/weathered/dirty and for the along with the cab mounts. Look for any new or none dirty black rubber showing.
Ck the fender/door gaps, hood/cowl gaps.
It could always of been worse, take note....
Sorry for the pics, but it makes folks WAKE UP when they see a dent side in a bad one. If you are the owner of one of these rigs, I am truly sorry. I believe the Cali HB and the yellow truck are FTE members.
Im glad both parties walked away, regardless of of damages. I have seen the crash testing footage from the 70's. Its amazing that anyone could survive a crash much over 20mph.
Check the frame rails, suspension components and have the alignment done. Do a visual inspection of all front end parts for damages and replace what is needed.
Thanks guys! Yea im ok and my truck actually is almost untouched after further inspection His new truck not so much but I have a new AC condenser on the way and other then that just gotta replace a bumper mount bolt.
And hey that big picture of the highboy laying at a angle is fordworth's! He completely rebuilt that baby into a cummins beast! But yea those are some bad wrecks.... Glad mine wasn't to bad.
And yea I got his license info, phone numbers work and cell, and all his insurance stuff. Debating if I should have insurance cover it or pay out of pocket. Lucky for me my girlfriends dad owns one of the biggest body shops in California. So hoping I can get a good deal on fixing it... I know for a tailgate and bumper our shop cost is $800... So in the end it will be a $2000 fix most likely after paint and the little dent under his tail light.
