Brake Booster

Is it the booster or just bad vacuum lines, and how do I tell? My wifes Edge has lost it's power brakes, it still stops, but it's like the old manual brakes. I heard a hissing noise and found a loose vacuum hose, the check engine light was on also. I reconnected the hose and the light went out, but the brakes didn't change. If it is the booster how hard is the replacement? I've done older cars and their simple, this seems to have a ton of things in the way, does anyone have a diagram for replacing the booster?

changing one is not generally hard, in fact you can often change one by unbolting the M/C from the booster and pulling it forward off the bolt shafts. In many cases I have found that to give me enough room. If you are replacing vacuum lines, be sure you replace them with vacuum rated hose - heater or fuel line will acutally squeeze shut. And it might not be the worst idea to replace the vacuum check valve if so equipped
