If you were closer, I would help. I was embarrassed with this last install when i finally got it right. I felt like I was going to break something and that was when I had it right. It really does work well. Like Dak, I also wish I had one that lifted the sucker. My shoulder's are crap.
Tried 3 DeeZee ez downs....
great concept - worked fine for two or three drops, but then the 'nutzert' loosened and twisted off each time...
I gave up and have a new one they sent sitting right over there catching dust... won't try it again...
just need to put it in when I have time... supposed to help up and down !!!
on edit --- someone said it won't fit ???? better call them before I start drilling holes
I would be very interested in what they say as to fitment on the current Superduty application. Amazon says it won't fit. Etrailer says no also. Kind of makes me wonder what year the shown application chart was made. If the chart was made back in 2006 then "Current" would mean 2006.
FWIW, the torsion bar will be visible under the tailgate. But, then I am giving thought to painted that area under the tail gate anyway so it will look more blended with my 5th wheel tail gate in place.
I am also unsure as to fitment around the lower center DOT mounted on the rear above the bumper.
But even given the negatives, if it will work with the newer tail gates, I'm all in. I really appreciated the ease of lowering and raising the tailgate on my 2006.

I had some user error as well when I first installed. Seems I over tightened the insert. Dee-Zee sent me a new one no questions asked. Worked fine for 2 years on the 2011 and has been working fine on the 2014.
An "up" assist would be nice but, lifting it is really the only workout I get.
Well, pigeon holed Amazon, the manufacturer, anyone I could talk to and you guys are correct...
Will not fit ANY manufacturers truck newer than 2006 and no FORDS newer than 2004 !!!
So I have a nice packaged LARGE paperweight now
And thanks Sgt93 for the offer --- I'm purty good at doing most things, but patience is not one of my strengths so if it doesn't work the first time...I'm less than enthusiastic to try again
ok, next question !
Wonder if we could get some liftgate shocks/supports that would fit to lessen the 'perceived' weight ??
Maybe run a line from the top edge of the tailgate to a 40 lb weight on a string that drops below the bed and counterbalances the tailgate weight ?
[QUOTE=BlackNM6.0;14770064]The window sticker on my truck lists:
LOCKING REMOVABLE TAILGATE W/LIFT ASSIST
The owner's manual doesn't mention it but it is in the '15 Super Duty brochure.
Yep, I bought a Hopkins torsion bar and when I went to install it I found that there is already one in there. It is also a torsion bar and well hidden inside the tailgate and runs from the left side gate hinge all the way across the gate. You can see it if you open the gate and look in the round 2" hole on the bottom. It is designed so that it is relaxed when the gate is lifted to the point of removal. I'm guessing it comes in the gates that have the step. The step components most likely add enough weight to make it necessary.
I have an early built 2015 F350 King Ranch w/step gate and no tailgate assist from factory. They must have just started doing this from the factory, and it wasn't an option when I ordered my truck as I ordered loaded.
If Ford is including them, it's about time. I stated on a survey it was ridiculous a cheap tailgate assist wasn't included. Maybe they listened.
And I'm talking about the shock that doesn't allow the tailgate to slam down when opened (which mine would do until I installed the EZ Down), not a reduction in tailgate weight device; one GM even includes on trucks.
I wonder if they are now including the power tailgate option that they have on the 2015 F150. It is pretty slick. I just have the poor mans option. I installed the DeeZee tailgate lower assist and it is very nice. I still forget that I have it because of all of the years without one, However it is very simple, inexpensive and easy to install option. I show it off to anyone that wants to watch!
