Towing a RV isn't going to pull much power. The charge wire to the plug is fairly light gage and is fused to some level.
I would expect that Ford has sized the single alternator to keep up with every factory option you can have on your truck. The HD one is required when you get the cab heater, so they probably needed a bit more. I have always thought that dual alternators were for ambulances or other builds that have a high power requirement. Can't see where the average user is going to have anything that will draw more than what is being created.
Tow Truck, snow plow truck, ambulances, extreme off-road lightning, extreme sound system, slide-in campers, operating in extreme temps.... I could see any of those needing a little extra juice and it could be helpful to have the dual alternators.
Otherwise, HD Alternator is fine...
I haven't heard of many alt. issues in these. Maybe golfmedic will chime in on how his Ford ambulance is doing- other than needing motors...

LOL... well, I found out yesterday in talking with the Ford techs, that I should have gotten a truck with dual alternators. All ambulance packaged trucks have duals. We have only had one alternator failure on the 6.7 platform since it came out and no one would have known it if someone hadn't been looking at the supplied gauges. By that I mean, with LED lights, there was no warning light because everything worked fine. I also found out that the 6.7 will not run when the voltage gets down to 10v. IT cannot run and will shut down. Really wish I had duals on my '13 now.
My truck came with dual alternators. I bought it off of the lot, and it has no special options that I would think requires the extra power. I wish it had supplemental heat.
We already had a couple of chilly morning here and the supplmental heater came on and it was nice. I wish there was a button to turn it on. It doesn't think 40s is cold...

Just roll your windows down Lee, Florida has all the supplemental heat you need

Haha, that's true, but I'm about as North as you can be in FLorida. A few days a year it'll get into the teens in the morning, and we just aren't used to that.
