C6 transmission no gears

C6 transmission has no gears I did an fluid-filter change and found an inch of gray sludge in the pan no metal shavings it was rebuilt about an 3 years ago ( took it to an full service gas station) and they sent it in to be rebuilt they installed it back in the truck it hasn't been right since. I read on another forum that to test the front pump you can disconnect a oil cooler line at the radiator witch one to disconnect though?

Do you know where they sent it too? If it was Aamaco you were lucky to get 3 years out of it.

So you actually have a trans heater there.

Seriously, Aamco doesn't do a full or proper rebuild, they just replace some soft parts and tell you if you tow with your truck the warranty is void.

Aamco wanted $2200.00 to do my C-6. I got a Ford Reman installed for $2800 at Columbine in Rifle, Colorado. 3 years and 80,000 miles as opposed to 30 days and 3000 miles at Aamco

If you have shavings in the pan, most likely the pump is shot having eaten the shrapnel. The gray material is you clutches. Mine layed down on me, I pulled it took it to a reputable rebuilder, cost me $1100 because somebody along the line installed a 3 disk forward clutch instead of the 5 disk it should have, so many hard parts were needed, I had him sent the old parts back, all my drums and steels were a nice shade of purple. Also have them install a shift kit into it to firm up the weak 2-3 shift the c6 has. Also look up Dynotech trans from Jordan, MN. I have one in the wifes Windstar, comes with 3yrs 100k parts and labor warranty.

The bar that goes too the ip (with the spring) is way loose and the spring is very stretched. Could that be causing my probleams?

No, that's just the kickdown, not your problem.

I'm thinking the Rock heads that installed it maybe they didn't seat the torque converter. Anyway to tell if the torque converter is is bad.

If it wasn't set then they wouldn't have gotten it back together. Even if they managed to force the transmission and block together it would have broken the crap out of the pump and that truck wouldn't have gone anywhere.

With that much sludge you would be better off getting a used transmission and going through it.

Replacement of the cooler in the rad is mandatory at this point.

There is no way you will get all the metal out.

Either that or install an external cooler and forget about the original.

Give both cooler lines a blow job too.

I would not let AAMCO flush my toilet.

I agree. They won't flush my toilet either. While we are on the C-6 forum, the C-6 in my snocat, 1976 vintage, will not shift out of neutral. I have pulled the shift cable and tried to move the lever, but to no avail. I pulled the pan, but could find nothing in sight out of order. Any suggestions? It is hard to get out of the cat and I wish I could solve the problem in the unit.

A common problem is in the detent mechanism.
Some have a spring loaded ball in the valve body that will wear a groove from the rooster comb.

Others have a bimetal strip that can break and jamb the linkage.
If you dropped the pan you should be able to see which one you have.
The bimetal strip can be replace without too much trouble.
The ball type needs to remove the valve body.
Another possibility is the park rod has broken and jammed into the case.
