I'll also look into this thread for future reference. I'm doing LED tail lights, and turn signals soon, marker lights like these would really add the cherry to the top. I'd also like to investigate this H4 headlight thing, and interior LEDs. I'd like a white dome, and maybe Green for the floor.
I did alot of research on making new LED lighting for my trucks. Most of the mods I seen I didn't really like because the lights and/or sockets were chopped up to make them work. In my research I found a sight that sells empty automotive bulb bases. I will link to the page for the 194's since that is the discussion here. The empty sockets are way down towards the bottom of the page. They also have 1156 and 1157 empty bases. Along with empty bases, they have MANY different types of bulbs and array's made up, and in about any color you would like.
I'm not super concerned with my sockets, all the exterior lights in my bronco have been cut at some point. And thanks to the PO, I had to find out the hard way that he doesn't know what a darn butt connector is. He twisted all the wires back together. Half my stuff stopped working when I'd hit a bump. So, I plan to eliminate the sockets and wire the LEDs directly into the wiring. My new tail lights are stock lenses with LED strips glued in and wires poking out. They wire into the existing harness.
The sockets are convenient in that they mount in the existing lens housings... sounds like your PO was a piece of work though. I feel your pain - I had to re-do pretty much all the wiring in my truck too.
That's only the tip of the iceberg. The interior wiring is messed up too.. I'll keep the front sockets for those LED bulbs but I shouldn't need the rest.
looks great. sure wish you were close by, as i'd tell you to go into business and do my truck. but thanks for the great idea and tips on how to do it. you should make and sell them
I've got marker lights on order, once they get here and I can crack them open I'll have to find out the size of the LED strip. Then I can add info here
Good info here... Thanks all.
Any of you know if I decide to go LED tail lights on my 78 truck, do I need a new LED relay or LED decoder for the 1157 bulbs? I heard that some places say yes and some say that these years do not need it that is ok to just plug to the existing wiring. Any info on this?
Thanks All.
