remove my SG II before taking my truck to the dealer tomorrow for routine service? I know it just reports data, but not sure how the dealer will feel about it. Any first hand experience on this?
Thanks Scott. I was leaning towards taking it out. Its easy to remove and put back in.
Dumb question; Why would they flash the PCM? And why would that be a bad thing? This is my first diesel as my other truck was gas and never had a PCM flash the entire time I owned it.
My dealers mechanics love my SGll. They do play with it but they have never done anything to mess it up. They do lose money with the time they play with it.
Color me Confused... I thought the scan gauge can only scan - not reprogram the truck?
There wouldn't be any harm in updating the PCM *unless* there is an update you don't want. Like I didn't really want the Nox PCM update because it caused the 2011s to lose MPG. But I had no choice as I didn't want to be stuck on the side of the road.
I've taken my truck in several times with the CTS connected. I told them it was a monitor and no questions asked. Why would they when they can easily tell if the truck had been tuned with an (Evolution in this case) or other tuner.
EVERY TIME my truck has gone in since <5,000 miles, my Mini Maxx was staring them in the face.... No issues. They always seem to give my truck a little more gas pulling it into the bay than anyone else's though.
I just say take it out.Its so simple to do and it takes literally 1 minute to do.It would take longer for me to explain what it does.Plus you never know what a dealer will write in "notes" somewhere without your knowledge.Yes I know in the end they would figure out its not a tuner but why have to go through all that for something that takes 1 minute to avoid. Some dealers are not as knowledgable as others.
Thanks for all the discussion. Yeah, the SG II isn't a tuner and can't modify a thing, but I took it out this evening anyhow out of an abundance of caution for the first routine service visit. I plan on asking them tomorrow what their position is on the SG II and take it from there for future visits, if any.
This is the first vehicle I've had the dealer change oil. I've always done it myself and plan to on this truck eventually. But I thought I'd let them do it the first time. And besides, the first oil change and such is free, so what the heck.
I generally take EVERYTHING that isn't bolted down out of my vehicles before bringing them in to service. I bring it in clean too... Just a habit. Not as picky about the outside, but I like the inside clean and cleaned out.
When my radiator started leaking I undeleted and detuned back to stock. Took it in and radiator was replaced under warranty. Did I have to go to all that trouble? Who knows. Didn't want to take the chance of having my warranty denied for something the delete had nothing to do with.
I unplug mine when I take it in, just so they won't while it's on. Sometimes disconnecting it while it's awake sends the Scangauge into a brain freeze.Min's on with double sided tape so taking it out would be a pain.
