I have a 1964 ford f100 4x4 short wheel base that was ordered as a cab and chassis. Does anyone know what bed I could put on it to make it correct? And has anyone know how many came from ford like this? I know this is how it came because my grandfather ordered this new for his tree company.
I'm assuming it would be the same size as a regular single cab short bed just without a bed. So any short bed style side or flare side should bolt on. best way to tell is measure the wheelbase so that will tell you if your frame is stock short bed size or not.
i'm going to attempt to build my own bed, eventually. Seems all you need is a table saw, a drill and maybe a router. Not sure what kind of wood I'm going to use, though. My friends suggested Hickory or Cedar to help avoid rotting. I'll probably just order the metal parts from DC ($25 a strip for stainless, $8 for cold rolled steel).
I think my bed sides and fenders are repops. Based on the body work that I can see on the steps there is no way that the rest of the bed can be 50 years old.
I was thinking of doing the repopulate as well. It's kind of pricey but I have never seen a 64 f100 4x4 and with everything else still being original I don't think the new bed would hurt seeming that it never had one anyway. Is there something to look for or watch out for? And has anyone done this with good results?

Cab & Chassis = No back of cab equipment. People that bought these installed whatever bed they wished, usually it was a flat or stake bed, or a utility bed.
Yes, the bed you choose is very important. Your truck came with a unique 120" wheelbase that used an 8' bed only. There was no shortbed 4X4 offering. For simpliest installation, find either bed as shown in photo off a 61-65 F 100 4X4 or F 250 4X4 or 66 F 250 4X4. For beds off a 2WD, only 57-60 118" or 61-63 122" wheelbase separate style beds will measure up, but there may be some reworking of crossrails since the 2WD frames are different than 4X4 frames.
Ok that makes sense because mine is a 120 inch wheel base and I thought that was a short bed. It also has a pto winch hooked to the transfer case. It also has the battery box under the passenger floor board. I have never seen that before.
