Then again, it is expensive to build, you are limited on transmissions, mechanical valves, dizzy is hard to get to, and there are only a couple good sources for performance parts.
Im debating this issue right now.
I would love a SBF, AOD, and 3.55 gears. Great performance, double the hp that the stock 292 puts out, and probably double the mileage. Im guestimating that the swap can be done for 3-4k on a budget, 4-5k with a bunch of new parts, and 5-6k with a crate engine.
Yea but then you have something that most everyone else is doing. I'm into my Y for less than 4500 bored 60 over high comp pistons cam 4 bbl alum intake Holley carb entire rotating assembly balanced, headers. And the distributor is not that hard to get to, and really how much work is really done on a distributor anyway? But it is your truck and your build so you are the one to decide
Its not about what everyone else is doing. Im getting to the age and mobility where its hard for me to work under the hood on a F100. That's why I like my six cylinder 65 Mustang better than my 65 289 Mustang. The six is way easier to work on, everything is easy to reach without busting a knuckle or pulling a muscle.
I was out of commission for 18 months when I injured myself working on my 66 F100.
My 64 F100 is my DD and I want to be able to cruise on the interstate and pull a small trailer if necessary.
The misses wants to sell the 65 Mustangs and buy a Mustang convertible.
I want to get down to two cars, not the 5 that we currently have.
