Ford Mustang 4 6 3V Engine | eBay

Reman 460 Ford

I'm thinking on collecting things for future mods over long periods of time but not doing any real installs until more pieces are ready.

What are your thoughts on things like this.

I'd like to start with a good base for a motor and learn about working on them over time in my garage.
Amy recommendations on a particular motor?

Your truck looks like a 64. What is wrong with a Y block? You can get them to make good power reasonably.

Hmmm I don't know, I'll start researching y blocks. Willing look at anything as long as it's Ford.
Thanks

If you don't want to buy it off of eBay you can go straight to Keith Craft .com.

Keith Craft Performance Engines

I know if I had a spare kidney laying around....

Seriously, though, that 4.6 mustang engine would be cool. Lighter than the 460 and assumedly better MPG. Might be a few more things to work out for fuel delivery but nothing that hasn't been done in one form or another.

Here's along those lines. Sounds pretty snappy.

The y block is a double edged sword.

On one hand it is very cool looking and sounding.

Then again, it is expensive to build, you are limited on transmissions, mechanical valves, dizzy is hard to get to, and there are only a couple good sources for performance parts.

Im debating this issue right now.

I would love a SBF, AOD, and 3.55 gears. Great performance, double the hp that the stock 292 puts out, and probably double the mileage. Im guestimating that the swap can be done for 3-4k on a budget, 4-5k with a bunch of new parts, and 5-6k with a crate engine.

Video link guy.

Cool stuff in this thread already.
Definitely not interested in an limited more expensive build if that's the case (y block). Once I move from the way it sits now then I may as well go to ease in accessibility to parts, reliability, value per dollar, etc.

Here's the guy from the video, looked sweet.
Some reason my mobile browser posts links to top thread.

saw Phoenix something crate motors and tuff dog?

I don't know how the guys on eBay had an 08 motor with less than 2k miles, seems strange. They're near here though.

I keep thinking 302 or 351 with aod
Like to start with a good base then get my hands in it and learn from there.

All 4.6 were EFI.

If that's the route you go, buy the whole car.

A little over a year ago I swapped a '92 Mustang 5.0/AOD into my '66 shortbed. I kept the fuel injection and used the Ford Racing harness. Already had 3.54 limited slip rear in the truck. I love it!!

I found a low mileage 86 Mustang GT convertible that I considered buying and taking everything.

The price is great, but the car is to nice to cut up.

'86 has speed density fuel injection vs mass air flow that started in '88 or '89.
Here's a little info on the difference: mass air flow vs. speed density.whats the difference? - Ford Mustang Forums

Mass air in 88 for California cars, 89 for the other 49 states. Ive owned both.

I can get the whole car for $3,500. 80,000 miles, 1 owner, 5.0/AOD

I can sell the shell for $1,000, that will cover the cost of the transplant.

I can sell my 292/FMX for $500.

That's $3,000 to install a EFI 5.0/AOD.
