My 03 6.0l is stuck. Went to start and at first it would crank but not fire, sorta like the old days where you sit there cranking and pumping gas pedal. Then (now) when you turn key to start it there is nothing, no clicks, just --------blank. No codes according to SC2 and otherwise power appears fine as in radio, horn, windows etc appear fine..
Need ideas please
Have you tried the jumper wire on the passenger side fender well? Is there fuel in the upper filter housing? Need 150-160 rpm during crank. Oil gauge coming up during crank?
jumper wire on the passenger side fender well? What do I look for? Can I jiggle? Ill run back over in a minute and check oil pressure. How do i check fuel filter level ?
There's a fairly heavy wire with a yellow stripe over the passenger side tire (under the hood). It has a round connector near the a/c box. Squeeze it and it should pull apart. Touch the the wire to the + side of the passenger battery and it should turn over. If not battery/starter issue. If key is on it might start and run, maybe not since you ere a no-start before. Check oil pressure gauge and rpm while cranking - guess you'll need a helper for the gauge. Remove upper filter to check fuel flow- turn key on should fill up if it's working don't crank it with filter cap off.
Glad ya got it going Hank. Diesel Tech Ron has a youtube video that included using the jumper wire. Handy bit of information on a no-crank especially if you're stranded somewhere. Someone posted it up the other day but I can't find it now. Anybody know which one it is?
Just went to truck and it turned over fine I will go out and fool around with jumper wire so I`ll know what to do next time. Thanks Rusty
My buddy just had a head scratcher situation that might help you.
Truck has been working fine. Drove to the gym to work out. Get in & gets a no start. Lights work, etc. Scan Gauge shows batteries @ 12.4v. Tried to get a jump from a gasser (single battery) truck. In our conversation, swears that he sees up to 14v on the Scan Gauge when running. We're wondering if the starter took a dump. Has to get it towed home.
He throws the batteries on the charger to eliminate them as a cause before messing with starter......starts like a champ.
Pulls both batteries & the alternator to get them tested. Turns out that he has a bad cell in one battery - defective battery was less than six months old. We figure the Scan Gauge was reading the good battery's voltage. Also, the accessories were working off the good battery.
