Slow/now cranking and no codes being thrown
So about a week and a half ago I went to crank my 03 6.0 truck up after having driven it to the mountains (about a 5hour round trip) several days ago. It was a little slower than usual but nothing too alarming, got to work and worked a full day, came back to my truck and it took even longer to crank. Drove to my girlfriends house to pick her up, only had it shut off for like 2 minutes hot and when I went to crank it it took two tries. From then on it was only bad at cranking when hot but now it takes 5-8 tries to crank wether it's hot or cold.
I took it to my buddy who owns a diesel mechanic shop and we hooked it up to his computer, everything checked out just fine, oil pressure was good, so was all injectors and ficm voltage, no red flags at all. So I went ahead and changed the icp, nothing, then he told me to change my aftermarket oil filter to motorcraft oil filter, still nothing, I also changed my oil filter drain valve and nothing.
*When I'm attempting to crank the truck, after I hold the key attempting to crank it for maybe 8 seconds my oil pressure gauge jumps to normal*
I have an ipr on the way to my house and I'm gonna try that as well. Was just hopping someone could help me narrow down the problem better
Also when the truck gets running it runs just as it ever has, no weird sputtering or stalling or cutting off. But when it does finally crank it puffs out a little black smoke.

Is there anyway I can test hpop at home or something? Gonna be a couple days till I can get it to my buddies shop cause he's busy. And I have 175k miles on it, just bought this truck about 6 months ago so I don't know much about the history. And yes the ficm voltage was good when starting. I forgot to mention I had the icp unplugged when I got to him cause I knew it was bad(which it was) I thought it was the no start problem but turns out it isn't.
It is turning fast enough when attempting to start, it sounds like a perfectly normal start just it never actually starts up.

Well update....
Replaced the ipr with a new one, got everything back together and bam, that damn truck started up perfect drove great. I even started it like 4 times and it started great everytime. Drove it a ways down the street till it was nice and warm, got back home and bam... Wouldn't start again, but it sounds like it really wants to start(if that makes sense).

It still takes 4-5 tries to start even when cold. You think my hpop is just going out on me?

I had the same issue previously and it was an oring that was just about blown through on a stand pipe. Tell tale was higher than usual IPR duty cycle. An air pressure test confirmed it.
Valve covers are easy enough, especially when you jack up the passenger side of the engine a little.
Doesn't mean that's what your problem is, but I'd definitely recommend you and your "mechanic" start troubleshooting instead of throwing parts at it.
