Wow. A guy asks a question about how he might address an annoyance, gets suggestions for possible fixes from free (use 4WD, drop the air pressure) to relatively expensive (new tires, a locker, new springs with air helpers), he tries the free ones, tells us that he's not in a position to do the expensive ones right now and he gets flamed. Nice.
Well this has certainly gone downhill. I can only assume that some people have been imbibing in holiday cheer a bit much. #1, Being a member of the HOA running the Baja would be cutting off my nose to spite my face. #2, I occasionally go off roading in the woods. Should I tell the Forestry Service that they should make all of their roads nice & smooth for me? #3, I take personal offense to the hard work jab. I have been working since I was 12. I have 13 welding certifications and am a journeyman machinist and engineer. I have built 6 vehicles from the ground up and have worked on dozens of others. I sweat everyday. I am 62 & now have a collection of broken bones, arthritic joints, and 2 back surgeries. I am currently rebuilding the deck, cutting firewood, harvesting the garden, repairing one daughter's Toyota and the others Pontiac. Rebuilding the rear suspension on the truck isn't the top priority right now. #4, As with any scientific inquiry, finding out what works and what doesn't work has equal validity. I appreciate all of the helpful suggestions that I have received-the others; not so much. Choosing which ones and whether to act on them and in what time frame is solely the prerogative of the questionnaire. You hope that websites such as this will offer constructive assistance to others but sometimes anonymity brings out the worst.
I have automatic hubs so putting it in 4 wheel isn't a big deal or inconvenience, if you don't want to make waves with the HOA, and baja up the community road. My dad always said " low and slow" put it in 1st and crawl up with some lower pressure in the rears if your running empty.
As a former strength coach/personal trainer for 15 years and now a nurse it's just extremely frustrating when someone comes to you with a problem and you give them SEVERAL possible solutions yet there seems to be a problem with every single one.
This thread was very much like the old "how do I lose weight?" question I got every day.
How about you start squatting? No I hate squatting. How about cutting down on alchohol? Nah, I only drink Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Ok, how about going for a walk before work? At 6am? That's too early! Ummm how about preparing your lunch instead of eating out? Really, I have to COOK?
