ICP sensor Interchangeable?
<hr style="color:#ffffff; background-color:#ffffff" size="1"> Hey experts, I've got a bit of a problem that I hope someone can answer. I'm in the middle of changing my ICP sensor on my 2003 6.0. I ordered the correct replacement part and now that I've got the truck apart i have found that "For Diesels" sent me the wrong part. I ordered part number 3C3Z9F838EA (ISK605 or ref# 1845274C92) which is specified for early '03 6.0. The packing slip indicates that part # and the plastic bag that was in the box also has that part #. Problem is, the sensor in the bag is actually part number 3C3Z9F838AA (ISK604, ref# 1845428C92) which is the sensor specified for 2004-2009 trucks.

Now here's the tricky part. On the page for the later model part ISK604 Ford Diesel Powerstroke ICP Sensors | ForDiesels.com

it states that an alternative part that can be used is Part Number: 1845274CP2 / 1845274 / 1845274C92 AP63407

that is, the early '03 can apparently be substituted on a later truck. However, the page for the earlier model ISK605 Ford Diesel Powerstroke ICP Sensors | ForDiesels.com does not list any alternative part. My question is, can the ICP sensor that is made for the later model be used in the pre 9/2003 engine? It seems logical to me that if the sensors are interchangeable for a later truck, they should work just fine on an early build truck as well. If not then it looks like I'll be sending this one back. The biggest difference I can see between the two is the size of the sensor body. The early '03 sensors have a 1 1/16" hex body and the later ones are a 15/16".

Anyone know if this sensor will work on my truck?

will most likely let you know what is what with this.

Are you still testing the Early style ICP with your engine?

Running a late build ICP sensor in my early build 6.0 with absolutely no problems what so ever. Put it in, it will work just fine and may last longer do to a new design.

 

yes - still running quite well.

 

Notice any benefits? Higher HPO psi @ WOT or faster start-up?
