fog light wire question

I added a fog light kit to my 2004 a year or so ago. It was wired with a relay that got power dorect from the battery and a switch I had to run into the cab that I turned on and off when I wanted the fog lights. After forgetting to shut them off yet again last night I cut the wire harness apart and hooked ground to a body ground and hot wire into the frobt running light harness from my passenger side headlight. SO should I let it be and run the two fog lights from the running light wire or hook up a new relay from the battery and use the running light connector to switch the relay on and off so I wont have to have a switch inside my cab again?

I would use the running light feed to trigger the relay since the load of the relay is much less than the lights, and maybe put a fuse on the direct battery feed to be prudent.

The dash in my 86 Bronco caught fire about 10 years after I had wired some unfused switches, good thing I had an extinguisher and tools to undo the dash close by

I now am much more careful how I wire things in my vehicles

Thanks for the reply, after that first night I disconnected the fog lights till I get a new relay. I went to my mom and pop auto parts store and the advanced auto and neither had one. Off to napa tomorrow. ....

I would definitely use the relay. If the fog lights are high enough wattage they could cause the fuse on your running lights to blow. May not happen right away, but still could.
