Walker Y-Pipe 45166

My y-pipe needs about 1/4" of tweaking to fit properly on my EFI manifolds. I have been told to button them up and they will bend to fit as they are tightened. I have my EFI manifolds lined up where i want them on the head (directly over the ports). I am concerned that if i suck the y-pipe up without it fitting properly, it will gradually move the manifolds off of the ports. I am considering making a cut in the front one and bending it to fit, and them welding the slit shut. Am i the only one to have this problem?
Opinions, anyone? Thanks, ...jack

Usually, when I put mine on, I'll put the manifolds in place. Then, before I tighten them down, I'll slip the Y-pipe onto the end of the manifolds and just barely hold it in place by putting the bolts on. Just enough to hold it on, and nothing more. Like 1 or 2 threads.

This is so you don't have to fight to get them ONTO the manifolds once the manifolds are in place, which can be a nightmare if there's no wiggle room.

Then, once your manifolds are set where you want them, tighten them down and torque them in place. Then tighten down the exhaust pipe fasteners until they pipe is seated.

It can put some torque on the pipe but I've NEVER had it move the manifolds at all. I would think that after a couple dozen heat and cool cycles, the pipe will reform somewhat to its new shape.

Grind out the flange inside the pipe where the other pipe is welded on?

Follow-up

I ended up cutting the rear pipe off about 1" above the main pipe. Then i took a carbide burr and opened up the hole (to max diameter) where it was welded to the main pipe. Then i welded it back on. Then i cut a slit in the front pipe, bent it slightly so it fit to the front manifold. Snugged them up when they were in proper alignment. Welded up the slit. Painted with header paint. Looks great. Fits on both manifolds like a champ now. No pushing, pulling, or tweaking needed. jack

AB: i agree the pipes will conform to a new shape after a few heat cycles. From then on, no tweaking should be required. thanks, jack
