Walker Downpipe

Hey, can anyone tell me exactly what a Walker dowpipe is? I need to run my split exhaust manifolds into one pipe and I have been told this will do the job, I just want to be absolutely sure before I go order one. Thanks.

The Walker connects the two EFI exhaust manifolds via a "Y" and drops down and back - exits as a single 2 1/2 " pipe just behind the tranny crossmember. On my '82 Bronco, it fits right into the stock location of the single catalytic converter. As I had upgraded to a 2 1/2" single exhaust prior to going EFI/Walker, it fit perfectly.

Depending on the year and location of your existing exhaust, I'd say you won't be unhappy. I was THRILLED - it fit like a glove for me.

I got mine today. Took it out of the box, looks good, even though its designed quite a bit different than the stock pipe.

Then I noticed an example of some of the worst worksmanship I've ever seen. I looked down in the small section of pipe that connects to the rear manifold (the back half of the "Y"). What I see is this jagged, oblong hole in the main section of pipe that looks like it was blasted out free-hand with a torch. It doesn't even come close to the same size as the pipe it is supposed to match up to. Terrible job on the part of whoever put this pipe together.

So, I think I'll show it to the shop who's going to put all my new exhaust on, and see if they can hog the hole out to the size it should be.

I bought a Maremont Hi Flow Cat from a muffler shop. It has a 2 1/2" inlet AND outlet - perfect for my 2 1/2" single exhaust system. According to other folks here, that is the optimum size for the 300 with a single exhaust while 2 1/4" is optimum for duals.

As for the poor workmanship at the connection point, I did read another post with a similar observation. Mine was a bit ragged but 99% open. The proper thing would have been to dress it up with an extension grinder, but I don't have one of those - yet.

My Magnaflow muffler & stainless tip finally showed up today! So after work I went and got an estimate and made an appointment for first thing Monday morning to have everything put on. I forgot to ask if they could fix the Walker pipe, so I'm going to take it to the shop tomorrow and see if the will be able to enlarge the hole out to where it should be. No way am I having that put on the way it is now.....the back 3 cylinders would be breathing through a passageway about 2/3 the size that the front 3 cylinders would be pumping through.

I can't wait to get this stuff on though!! I'm like a little kid with a new toy

Since there seems to be consistent problems with the hook up to the rear exhaust manifold, is there any other manufacturer that offers the same thing but with better craftmanship? Just curious.

Perhaps Walker (exhaust.com) should be notified. I doubt they'd like to hear about ANY negative press. They do get a lot of positive press here...

Ok, problem solved. I took the pipe down to a local motorcycle shop I've done business with for years. After a few minutes with their port grinding tool, the pipe looks great. I'll let you guys now how my new exhaust performs & sounds Monday.

Me thinks you're gonna like it. I had to loosen the EFI's a bit fot the install, and use muffler sealant to get a tight seal.
