Hey guys, thank you for all of your help in the past. I have another problem I desperately need your help with. I got a p0299, or a p0046, I don't remember. So I took out the turbo and cleaned it. Even before the code though, I noticed that I had very low boost and very high EGT's. It will go up to 900* even on a mild grade going 35mph. I checked everything I could think of except for fuel pump pressure and the injectors. My IQ says high boost. I notice the boost going up pretty high, higher than normal. Also, you know when you go down a grade at high speed, it almost sounds like the engine shuts down? You no longer hear the throaty diesel sound? Then when you slow down it comes back? Well when going down a grade at high speed, I no longer get that, it's always stays with the diesel idle sound. I have no idea what could be wrong. And I have like NO power! Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Cheezit, I'm glad I got you. . . I checked everything, including the connector. I have AE and checked that the solenoid was working, I hear it change when I switch VGT on and off. However, the connector pigtail clip is broken, so it just sorta sticks in there. Do you think that could cause it? B/C I'm at a total loss here, I'm thinking that maybe it's some other sensor messing with the VGT solenoid or something and it's more complicated. BTW, I did the oil cooler and EGR upgrade. It only started after this. I believe I broke the pigtail clip when I did this. But it works with AE and it's in there pretty good. . .
Wouldn't hurt to change the pigtail. BPD sells them.
just bought it from BPD. . . dealer wanted $56 for it! BPD was $12. So I'll see if that helps and get back. I changed the EBP sensor awhile ago, maybe 4K ago. I did not however check the tube, which I'm doing today. I'll stick a hanger in there or something. After that, I have no idea, like I said, I checked everything I could think of or find online. I know my FICM is fine, I actually took it out and resoldered everything b/c it was showing low voltage at certain times during driving. The only thing I can think of now is fuel pump taking a *****.
Just tested the VGT with AE again. I noticed that when I open it, it makes a noise and shuts off. When I CLOSE it, it does not shut off. Does that mean it's having a problem closing the vanes? Isn't it supposed to shut off? I'd guess it's stuck, right?
Ever thought about pulling the turbo for a cleaning? it's good maintenance practice and gets easier every time you do it
See first post. I've had the turbo out 5 times already and I can do it in less than an hour now. I really need to know if when you close the VGT Solenoid, isn't it supposed to shut off?
I have a known working VGT solenoid if you need it for testing let me know.
That is extremely nice if you to offer. I would like to let everyone know that I THINK the problem is fixed. I believe it was due to oil level/oil type. I had 15W-30 in there when it should have been 15W-40. I changed the oil and it is now at the correct level. I did not test it that far so I may be wrong. So I would still like to ask you about the VGT solenoid. If you test it outside of the truck, plugged into it's pigtail, does the tip of the solenoid move? Because I did that and it did not move, just makes a noise. But when it is inside of the turbo and truck running, it turns the turbo open and closed, I can hear it, and see it on VGT Duty Cycle. If you know the answer, please let me know, I am dying to know.
