Hi, Im new to FTE and also to owning a diesel engine, but not new to Fords. I have been a mediocre shade tree mechanic for years, but have to admit that the diesel has me a bit intimidated. After doing quite a bit of reading on here, I have found some piece of mind but still am wondering to myself what I am getting myself into. I recently bought a '93 F350 7.3 IDI with Banks sidewinder turbo add-on DRW that has been stretched. One of the few p/u Ive seen with third row seating! It sure is a long ol gal and needs nearly 40 acres to turn it around, but I am looking forward to growing old with her by my side. I look forward to countless discussions about her. I hope to work towards some restoration as well. Im thinking that she is fairly mechanically sound and praying I dont just have a false hope, but only time will tell I suppose. Until next time
This is a great forum Their is a lot of helpful information on here. Best yet their is a lot of fellow FTE guys on here that will help you out. I can't remember all their names at the moment.
I hardly work on my own vehicles due to lack on knowledge. But with the research and help from these guys I have manage to do my own glow plugs, glow plug relay, repair glow plug harness injectors, return lines, and tach sensor.
Welome! And yes we need pictures of that stretched rig. It's good that you don't have any imediate problems to address, that will help with the learning curve as you transition to the IDI diesel system.
Ask and ye shall receive. Trust me there will be many more pics to come soon. I am just getting ready for work and it took me a minute to figure out how to upload it. Im excited that she has came to me, cant wait to start making improvements. As for things that need immediate attention, the driveline is bumping the underbody at times. I need to do some modifications to the body and/or drop the carrier bearing some to improve the clearance between the driveline and the body.
Welcome to the best and most informative forum on the net! Lots of experienced and great guys here. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. Good luck.
