New F-350 SD Owner Yesterday.... SES Light Today?

Hello to everyone here on this board. My father is a new SD owner as of yesterday.... '01 F-350 4X4 with the 7.3 PSD and the 6-speed manual transmission. The current mileage is 133K; I know it's a lot of miles, but the truck is unbelivably clean.

We drove the truck about 400 miles yesterday in the process of trying it out and purchasing it, and everything performed flawlessly. Today he started getting the SES light intermittently.

When this occurs, the engine "stumbles" almost to the point of dying completely for an instant... the light comes on and then the idle returns to normal like nothing ever happened.

He's planning to take it to our local Ford dealership on Monday, but I thought I'd ask here for any possible opinions/determinations so that we might have some kind of idea what the problem might be before we go in.

Thank you.

Read this thread.....similar complaints can be found throughout the boards and it all seems to boil down to the Cam Postition sensor. I get the same thing ESPECIALLY on really damp days. Not a huge problem...seems like more of an electronics hiccup. From what I have read it's and easy fix (I jst have not changed mine yet) Good luck and I hope this helps

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll pass that info along. Is this Cam Position sensor a DYI-type repair, or should we entrust it to a shop?

Funny how you mentioned seeing this condition too... and especially on damp days. It rained and stormed pretty good here last night...

As far as I can tell Yes it is a total DIY deal. Just a plug in and out it sounds like, BUT I have not done it myself yet. From the other post I have read( I will try to find them) they all sound like it takes a minute.
