Looking at a 2005 F250 Auto with just over 100K. Owner recently had the following work performed after losing head gaskets:
ARP Head studs
Head gaskets
EGR delete
Coolant Filter
Oil Cooler
New Cam (hi performance)
New lifters
New Turbo w/updated drain tube
New Y down pipe
Rebuilt FICM
Straight 4" exh w/cat delete
I think the HG's went from bad EGR cooler. Sounds like everything has been addressed. Not sure if they changed the STC fitting until I see paperwork. What do you guys think? Is there anything else that should be addressed or could be getting ready to fail? Thanks for your input.
How I bought my truck, almost everything done. If he was a mechanic and did his own work, that may be the best or hope it was a reputable shop. Never mentioned the price, hope your getting a good deal!
At the least, check to make sure you don't have a cylinder without compression. Pull the starter write connect from the passenger side gender well and touch it to the positive battery post. Have the key in your pocket. If the engine turns evenly, the compression is even. If tons vary much while turning, your compression is uneven.... Indicating a problem.
The cam apparently showed some scuffing in spots, so they just replaced it and the lifters. Work done by a diesel shop north of Seattle. Not everything at one time. Lost turbo shortly after engine work, then FICM tested at low voltage and was replaced. Price is $23.5.
23.5 there better be a gold in that seat for me to pay that kind of money, Sounds like the guy put some cash into the truck. be the first to cold start listen for Injector clatter, ask or look for OEM filters (fuel and oil) what coolant is being ran? hook your gauge up and go for a ride check out Temps oil and coolant . Fully warmed up put a load on the electrical system ( lights AC, radio, everything look at the Alternator amps out put you don't want to see 13.2 ever that will kill some Battery's and a FICM check those too from the Gauge.
I searched for several weeks looking at $20k trucks, no engine work done, torn seats, beat paint, 200k on the clock.
Found what I wanted at $23k, 04' Harley, 97k miles, all engine work done, beautiful interior, excellent exterior, rims, tires... everything just right. If it's the truck you want with the engine work and in good physical shape....
Every day I drive my truck, I stop and look back at it and think I was pretty lucky to have found what I wanted, done correctly and the price was what it was. Sure, I'd have liked to pay $12k, but wasn't finding a truck in the condition I wanted at $12k! Dump $10k into the motor and your right there anyway...... I say, go get your truck!!
