Gary, I hope this will not be construed as a "hijack"...

Since you already have everything hooked up on "Rusty", how about driving up the hill near your house [you mentioned it recently] at a certain speed and record the readings [AFR/vacuum/?]. Then, when the test on the 300 is done, the same conditions can be repeated [IF the 300 can climb the same hill??? ]. It would be a neat comparison as to what goes on when performing the same amount of work with two very different engines.

What do you think?

Not a hijack at all. And, a good idea. Once I get the Windows laptop, which is supposed to be tonight, I can download the current data from the AFR meter and clear it. Then I can make some runs up the hills - there are actually two. One is steep, probably 1/4 mile long, and the speed limit is 40 MPH. The other is long, maybe almost a mile, and in a 65 MPH zone, and while not terribly steep it is a known load.

So, I can make some runs on those while the meter is recording and see what that looks like. However, Rusty is running a C6 and 3.50 gears, so the RPM we see on the chart won't be the same as your truck at the same road speed, which will complicate things a bit.

Running mine in 3rd gear [1:1] with the 3.08 rear gears would make the RPMs closer, for comparison purposes.

Also, you might do a WOT run [short distance] to see how low the vacuum goes. The six cylinder with 1 barrel is known to have very restrictive intake and some have reported that the vacuum does not go below something like 3-4" HG.

Guys - I started a new thread called Carb Tuning w/AFR Meter to carry on the discussion of tuning, using the meter, hills, etc. I thought it would be good to let others see what we are talking about and not many opted to subscribe to this thread. See you there.
