i have a 1990 f150 and want to remove the passengers side arm rest to make a repair to it. do i have to take off the door panel to remove it. i see theres a screw in the middle of the top, looking down. do i just take out this one screw and then pry it up, or are there screws holding it from the backside. thanks
The screw you see helps hold the door panel on the door. You have to pull the door panel, and then the screws on the underside of the pad. Look it up here, and put "f150" in the Model field - not "f-150".
I just replaced mine. I tried to get just the pad at the junk yard, but they sold me the whole thing. Still it was only $10.00 and I think Ford wanted about $70.00 for just the pad.
Steve is right on the money as usual. After you take the one philips screw out, unscrew the door lock button and take it off and then you can take something thin and put it between the panel and the door and pry the panel off. I think there are three fasteners on each side and three on the bottom. Work around the door slow and easy. These fasteners have been known to break, but you can get replacements for them cheap. After they are popped loose you have to slide the panel over the door handle. I found that if I pulled up on the handle it was easier to do this. Once you get the door panel off there are 5 screws holding the pad on You'll need a 7mm nut driver for those.
