pulling engine with or without tranny?

73 f250. 2wd. Pulling engine out tomorrow. 400/t18. 390/t18 going back in.
I noticed there is a cross member between the engine cross member and tranny cross member. This one seems to be riveted in and is an attachment point for the suspension. So will it be easier to take the engine out with out the tranny, and install without tranny and fight with that seperately?
What do you guys do? I don't have anything beyond an engine puller so nothing too fancy. Thanks

I've always disconnected the tranny first. If left attached you may need to remove part of the front grill to get it all out which is no big deal in most cases but I've just found it easier to deal with the engine alone.

That cross member actually bolts in, three bolts on either side.

Ha! Not very . At the rate I'm going, trying to work on it between work assignments I figure another year .
Originally I figured five years, that was in 2009. Well, we all see how that went.

Unfortunately, the old saying ford never built the same part twice is applicable here. The crossmember bolts to the frame rails, but is riveted to the radius arm bracket. I don't see a watmy to pull them together. But it shouldn't be too much hassle to drop the tranny. Thanks tho.

I've found it's easier to pull the front of the truck apart and yard the whole thing out the front. I only tried pulling them individually once (460/C6), and it was a royal pain in the ***.

I learned you can pull the engine with a t18 attached if you take the top of the tranny off. It *might* go in that way but I didn't want to chance it so I put the engine in with the bell housing and the tranny.
Learned a few other things too but nothing relevant to this topic.
