I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE MY 272 Y BLOCK OUT OF MY 57 FORD TO CLEAN AND REPLACE A FEW PARTS. IS IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE ENGINE AND TRANNY AT THE SAME TIME? ITS SO FILTHY I CANT EVEN SEE ALL THE BOLTS TO SEPARATE THE TWO. WHAT DO I NEED TO LOOK OUT FOR OR IS IT GOING TO VERY DIFFICULT. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT I HAVE NEVER TAKEN A ENGINE OUT BEFORE. THANKS
Removing both engine and tranny at the same time is a bit difficult if you have a floor shift tranny. Probably have to remove the top of the tranny. Column shift or auto, not a problem.
If it is a 4 speed (t98) floor shifter....just put it in neutral, unscrew the round retainer at the base of the stick, and pull it straight up. Stuff a rag in the hole to keep dirt out.
If you are going to do them both together, it's best to take off the front end sheet metal so you don't have 700 lbs swinging way up in the air to clear the radiator support. I don't know about 57's but usually the whole front end comes off in very little time, as a unit.
I keep taking off bolts till something comes loose ..an if you can take it to the car wash first and clean as much as you can before you try taking it out..and watch for ground wires ..they are always missed... do you have an engine hoist ?? and help ??..best thing is to take your time ..and bag or mark all your parts as you take them off so you know where they go later ..good luck ..don't forget pictures..
