Pulling Engine/Tranny

I'm planning a project to install a rebuilt engine and tranny in my 93 full size Bronco. I've heard that the easiest way to get the old ones out is to leave them coupled and pull them out as a unit rather than drop the tranny and pull the engine separately. Same with installation; bolt them together and then drop them in through the engine compartment. Anyone ever do it this way?

I've heard the same thing, but have never done it.

You can run into problems getting the splines on the shaft on the tranny to line up with the engine. If it's a problem, obviously, it would be easier to do outside the truck.

And on my truck ('86), some of the engine to tranny bolts are very difficult to get to while its in the truck. I had to look at a diagram and then search them out by feel.

On the other hand, manouvering the tranny through the engine bay while attached to the engine could be a headache.

That's the problem with generic advice, you have to figure out if your creating more problems than your solving...

Sorry I couldn't be more specific

I've done it both ways and prefer to keep the engine and tranny together if possible.
