My 2004 F350 has a decent amount of surface rust(underneath) from 10 years on new england winters, no root yet or anything serious yet so I plan on making a "jig" in the garage, removing the bed, and taking care of all the surface rust. Just wondering what you guys think a bed weighs in at? i started removing those Torx head bolts, 6 are free, only broke 4 bits doing so...
I lifted mine with three people, one of them a retired woman. Three guys can do it fine, two would be hard to balance the bed (that's where the lady came in to play, balancing but not lifting). You could always slide a pair of 2x4s under and put it up on sawhorses and drive the truck out from under, that way you don't have to lift the bed back off the ground.
if the bed is rusty enough to have to change it, you will most likely be cutting the heads off the bolts and replacing them.
i only got 1 of the 6 off when i changed the bed on my 02.
I am not changing the bed, just cleaning up some of the rust underneat and on the frame, I'm kinda **** about that stuff, the truck has zero body rust, which is great for a ten year old new england vehicle.
Anyways, my plan is to pull the truck in the garage, hook four come alongs to the ceiling, unbolt the bed and drive the truck out and do what i need to do. have 6 bolts free now, the other two are going to get battled tonight, PB blaster has been applied. keep you guys updated.
