NP435s were installed in pickups and mediums. In mediums, the input shaft is larger in diameter, and possibly longer. So you have to make sure you are getting the right one, or a bit of rework will be required.
If you current trans shifts and drives ok, it may take a rebuild with new bearings, or may need some other parts. If you can score a working NP435 for $80 you might have a working trans or be able to make one.
Do you know of a shop that rebuilds transmissions and is familiar with these?

Well I started looking around for a np435. (When you're right, you're right!). Found a 435 and bell housing out of a '69 f-350. It even has the e-brake and supposedly rebuilt 5 years ago by a trans shop here in town so it should be fairly tight. Found it on craigslist 20min away from home for $125! Looks exactly like the one that's in the truck, so I hope to just move my PTO to the new trans and have a bolt-in solution. When I get the thing swapped I'll post the numbers off both for future reference.
