Hi guys! Just bought a 1967 f-600 grain truck. Has the original 352 and new process 540 4-speed trans (which is shelled). Can't seem to find a replacement anywhere! Anyone got one that wants to sell I'd be interested.
Thanks
Probably a 330. 352s were not installed in these trucks. They pretty much look the same as they are the same basic engine, along with the other FE/FT motors.
A NP540 is a 5 speed trans. You said 4 speed, which could be a NP435. Similar to the model installed in pickups, but with a larger input shaft and probably a different output to deal with the e-brake.
What is wrong with your trans? Synchros and bearings? Or are the guts leaking out the side?
I'm about 99% sure its a 352. That's not to say that it was the original motor however. I'm not a gearbox guy, so I can't say for certain what's all wrong with the trans, but it was pretty noisy when I started (350 mile drive to get it home) about 100 miles into the trip I heard something metal bouncing around inside the trans then whatever it was ran thru the gears. I'm surprised it didn't blow it completely, but afterward it got REALLY noisy. I stopped at a radio shack and bought a 10-pack of domino sized magnets and stuck them all to the bottom of the trans to try and keep the shrapnel stuck to the bottom and made it the rest of the way. It still seemed to shift OK, so im not sure about the synchros, but it sounds like when a bushing goes out on a rotating shaft and it slops around in the hole.. kind of a squalling sound. Inside the truck it sounded like it was running dry, so much that I stopped and double checked that it still had lube. Fluid levels are okay. Still moves and shifts, its when the rpms get up there it makes the squalling sound, and quiets down when there's no load, or under a heavy load pulling hills.
I won't know till I can scrape some grease and read the casting numbers which trans is actually in there. Its appears to have the flat top, PTO shaft on the passenger side and e-brake on top if that helps at all.
Btw: I did find a place that will build one for $2100 with a 60k or 1 year warranty. They're the ones that said get the casting # off the input shaft, front and rear bearing cases, and top cover.
I'll have to wait till I get back home Friday to look at the plates. Originally just going on what the seller told me, but being an old farm truck it could easily have been transplanted. The shift pattern is standard 4 speed pattern with reverse to the right and back.
Without getting too far off into the weeds on this I did find an old post/image on fordtrucks.com site of a Clark v282 in a 67 f600 that looks suspiciously similar.

Mine has PTO shaft on passenger side if that helps any.

Where are you located? I have a NP 5 speed that came out of my 1958 F600. 5th is 1:1 NOT overdrive. I'm in Central Texas.
His profile says MO.
Just to get things rolling on this for the op, can you post what the input shaft size, spline and length is? And, what is the trans to bell pattern?
That'll tell him if he's got a bolt in or not.
Your '58 would have been a y-block, he has an FT or maybe a transplanted FE. The basic trans to bell pattern changed in the early-mid '60s on some stuff, not sure about transmissions like these.

Its definitely a 4 speed. I'm in Kansas city. Trans is still in the truck.

If its a np435 I think I have one located about 30 miles from home for $80. If its a ford app trans with a granny low gear do you think it would be a bolt-in?
